My Story

I’m a mostly self-taught ceramic artist whose passion for clay has been a lifelong journey. After falling in love with ceramics in high school, life led me down a different path, and I became a teacher, all the while holding onto my dream of working with clay. In 1994, a few years after I started teaching, I bought a wheel and kiln, but it wasn’t until my retirement in 2022 that I, with some help from family and friends, finally set up a dedicated studio. Now, with a fully equipped space I create functional pottery and three-dimensional art, blending years of dedication with a deep love for the medium. Clay is my true passion, and after decades of waiting, I am now fully immersed in my craft.

In the whimsical world of Kat Love Ceramics, I embark on a vibrant journey where clay meets character, and every piece plays a part in an ongoing narrative. My work thrives in the delightful intersection of functionality and fantasy, where everyday objects transform into charming companions for your home.

I embrace the unexpected—think of plates that swim and mugs that smile! Each creation emerges from a spontaneous dialogue between my hands and the clay, reflecting a quirky spirit that invites joy and personality into everyday life. The process is as playful as the final products: sculpting, bubble glazing, and firing are layered experiences that add depth and individuality to each piece.

Color is my co-conspirator; it sneaks into my designs like a cheeky sidekick, making its presence known in bold hues, sprightly patterns, and irresistible textures. I believe that our spaces should sparkle with character, and my ceramics are the living, breathing embodiment of that philosophy.

Ultimately, my intention is to create not just objects, but connections—between people and their environments, between art and daily rituals. I write stories in clay, inviting you to join me on this adventure of whimsy and warmth. In a world full of ordinary, let’s dare to be delightfully different, one quirky piece at a time.
